There’s something about seeing a city from a river. I don’t know what it is. Perhaps it’s the feeling of being backstage during a play, or traveling back in time to a place where living next to the river was essential for survival. In any case, river tours offer what buses and taxis do not: peace. A smooth, almost nurturing feeling of being gently rocked back and forth while you get to see the backstage of a city.
On our Chao Phraya River cruise, we saw many pagodas, Buddhas and buildings. But my favorite sight that day was a local man excitedly waving to us in his speedo.
